Home Reading Program
As our final goal of developing lifelong readers, focused readers, and readers with stamina required for later school years and beyond, we will be establishing a routine called Status of the Class, where students discuss daily what book they are reading and where they are currently in the text. Reading will be documented at school to see the books being finished, abandoned, pacing, difficulty, and interest. We will meet with students to support, assist, and encourage their thinking.
There is no home reading log this year but if you find one is required please contact us. Also, if we find a student is struggling with their reading habits, we will contact you to help support. With that said, although we are not asking parents and students to use a reading log, it is still asked that a reading habit of 20- 30 minutes a day be spent at home reading. Understandably students have busy lives. It is okay if students miss a day. We do encourage kids to read daily since this will create the habit of reading we wish to see. Students are strongly encouraged to bring the books they are currently reading back and forth from home to school using their book bags to keep our library books in great condition for others to enjoy and love.
